Roses and Lilies and Horses

Each morning I enjoy taking a walk around the yard to see what flowers are beginning to bloom. It is always a treat to see what changes occur during the night.  This morning some of the lilies are beginning to bloom as are the roses.  Lilies look lovely put in a pretty dish, however, this one found it's way into a small container on the patio table for awhile.

The vintage book, "Roses and Lilies" from Longfellow has many beautiful poems, which I pull out and read often.  Last year while at a craft fair, I found two additional vintage books of poems.   The old patina colors and tattered edges add my love of rustic.

This red rose has a velvet feel and the rose bush has struggled from the cold winter, but it is looking better each day.  The other roses are English roses.  When I purchased them two years ago I thought I had ordered tea roses, however, they are climbing roses, so I really have to keep them trimmed in the location they are planted.  Moving them makes me nervous, so I have not attempted that step yet.

The small green bud vase I purchased a few years ago is just the right size to put small flowers in.

Enjoying the quiet mornings out on the patio with a cup of coffee, reading and enjoying the blooms and the sounds of the birds is so relaxing.  God has so richly blessed us!

A few weeks ago my husband and I traveled to southern Oklahoma to visit our daughter.  While out walking around the ranch her horses decided they would stand still long enough to snap their pictures.

My daughter has raised these beauties since they were born.  Leigh and her horses are best buds.

A quiet country evening looking out over the pasture.

Each morning sees some task begun, Each evening sees it close.  May you enjoy the beauty in simple everyday pleasures.

Birds and Blooms

Spring makes its own statement, so loud and clear that the gardener seems to be only one of the instruments, not the composer

Patience is needed when attempting to capture these busy hummingbirds this morning.  They make you laugh as they fight one another for control of the feeder.  They are here one moment and gone in a split second.  These "little friends" can make one smile!

The Iris are showing their bright lovely colors this morning.  The sad part is, they want to all bloom at once.  Several of the varieties have a wonderful scent.  It will be time to divide and share them with family and friends this year.

I am still working on learning how to take better photos, and it can be a challenge, however, thank goodness for "Quick Reference Guide".

Enjoy you day, and soak up some beautiful sunshine!  I love this quote, "Sun is shining, the weather is sweet.  Make you wanna move your dancing feet".

Rustic Blue Bird Canvas Project

We have a few blue birds which come to two old bird houses in our back yard each year.  Why they like these rustic houses, I can't figure out, but we dare not take them down.  I love the quiet mornings watching All the birds which visit the back yard.

It struck me, I had been saving a bird ornament made out of heavy cardboard, so I began pulling out objects along with paint to experiment with the artist canvas I had to make a Spring mixed media project to set on a table.  I took old book text and tore several pages for the background, glued and painted part of the canvas, used a decorative bird nest, old lace, old pearl earring, old fork, old buttons and belt buckle and finished off with a old rusty door hinge.  I think I used "OLD" to many times!

I pretended the bird ornament was a blue bird, even though I don't think I accomplished the true colors.  What can I say, except  I am not a painter.  I do like the finished look.  I enjoy taking bits and pieces of old and new, to bring together for a different piece of home décor.

The second project I worked on was taking this very old light globe that was my grandmother's, and since some the burgundy paint had chipped off on the inside, I decided to give a different look to the globe, and used turquoise watered down paint, then rolled the paint around the globe and set out in the sun to dry.   I LOVE the color of turquoise, especially turquoise jewelry, which has nothing really to do with this light globe.   I really like the effect, especially after I added a few flower stems.  Old is new again and a LOW COST piece of décor to set in the sunroom.

Wishing you a good week, and let your creative side lead you in a new direction.
